Nobuhiko Obayashi’s Treasure Chest: A Wonderland Imaginary Movie Theater
Cheers in our hands! The Birth of Kirin Beer
The document presented by PSC
Notes
This is a rare company promotion movie, which was only screened for the visitors to Kirin beer factories in 1970. The first half of the movie contains quotes about beer, the newly-opened Yokohama factory, and photo collages of contemporary lifestyles. In the latter half, a girl playing a “beer fairy” introduces the process of beer making in a factory by dancing and singing “Bubbly, bubbly, Syuwa.” It is tailored with a pop and chic musical style. In the ending scene, Kyoko, the wife of Nobuhiko Obayashi, and Chigumi, the daughter of Nobuhiko Obayashi are toasting with beer other actors of Obayashi movies back then. It is filmed by Shigeichi Nagano, a cinematographer of the Obayashi movies “Peking’s Watermelon” and “The Two.” This valuable piece was so epoch-making, as a promotion video back then, that it has become legendary. Through the courtesy of Kirin Holdings Company, this is now available to the public. Do not miss the chance to see this wonderful piece.
