Notes

Newly hired editor Onoda, at the instructions of one of his seniors at work, has the opportunity to visit the home of a man named Hoshi, a novelist whom Onoda holds in great esteem. As it turns out, however, Hoshi is no longer engaged in the creation of novels. This short comedy film explores the fate of someone at the mercy of the changing times, who despite being long past his peak refuses to give up on his love of writing.
This is a joint production between the members of the Kenshin (Dedication) Theatrical Company, which saw its performances cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Director Yuki Takashima. The undertaking was prompted by “Cheer for Art,” an artistic and cultural activity support project promoted by the Tokyo Metropolitan government. The film portrays the stance of creators unable to pursue their dreams as envisioned, and how they endure such hardship in refusing to forgo those artistic objectives. True to the “Cheer for Art” theme, the story incorporates calls of encouragement to creators like the one portrayed and others in the same field.
